Calvin Borel recently joined Hall of Famer Pat Day as the second jockey to win 1,000 career races at Churchill Downs.
Borel rode Gray’s Hart Girl to a 7 3/4-length win on June 4 for the milestone victory. The 43-year-old Borel won race No. 999 on the same card for his brother, trainer Cecil Borel.
Day won 2,482 races at Churchill. Borel, meanwhile, now has 4,767 wins overall and purse earnings of $110,779,492 during a 28-year career that began in 1983. He has won three of the past four runnings of the Kentucky Derby.
